The Legend of Auchindoun Castle
High on a lonely hill in Moray stand the ruined walls of Auchindoun Castle.
Silent. Broken. Avoided by many after dark.
Long ago, during the violent feuds between Highland clans, a small group of MacGregor warriors fled across the moor after a brutal defeat.
Wounded and exhausted, they reached the castle just before nightfall.
They believed they had finally found shelter.
But their enemies had followed them.
Under the cover of darkness, the attackers surrounded the castle.
The MacGregors barred the doors and climbed the narrow spiral stairs, preparing for one last stand.
Torches burned low.
Wind howled through the stone corridors.
Then came the sound of footsteps echoing from the empty hall below.
No one had entered.
One by one, the warriors disappeared into the shadows of the tower.
By morning, the gates were still closed.
Inside, there were no bodies.
No weapons.
No signs of struggle.
Only silence.
Even today, travelers crossing the hill report strange lights moving among the ruins after sunset.
Locals say Auchindoun Castle was never truly abandoned.
It is still guarded.
